Genetic tests designed to reach every community

Lightening Lives is a healthcare technology company in Hyderabad. We develop simple, affordable REASSURED genetic tests for inherited disorders, for use in public health programmes.

What is REASSURED?

For institutions and public health programmes.

Validated by ICMR

LitLife™-SCA, our sickle cell anaemia test

ICMRIndian Council of Medical Research

Collaboration with CSIR-CCMB

MOU for developing and commercialising the sickle cell assay

CSIR-CCMBCentre for Cellular and Molecular Biology, Hyderabad

Developed for national programmes

Tests for Government of India health programmes, including the National Sickle Cell Anaemia Elimination Mission

We design genetic tests the other way round

Genetic tests have traditionally needed large equipment, specialised laboratories and trained staff, so they rarely reach the people who need them most. We start from the other end: tests designed to be simple, affordable and usable outside specialised laboratories, so molecular diagnosis can reach underserved communities.

What sets our tests apart

See the REASSURED approach

Simple sample collection

A dried blood spot: a few drops of blood on a card. Simple and minimally invasive to collect.

Extraction-free

No separate DNA extraction step.

Quick results

Rapid turnaround, so programmes can act on results sooner.

Simple to run

Designed so that collecting, processing and reading results doesn’t call for specialised training, large equipment or a specialised laboratory.

Built for scale

Affordable and scalable, with high-throughput screening and an automation-friendly workflow for large public health programmes.

REASSURED

  • Real-time connectivity

Results can be read or shared digitally with decision-makers

  • Ease of specimen collection

Samples are simple and minimally invasive to collect

  • Affordable

Affordable for the people tested and for the health system

  • Sensitive

    Few false negatives

  • Specific

    Few false positives

  • User-friendly

Simple to perform, with minimal training

  • Rapid and robust

Quick results; tests survive transport and storage without special conditions

  • Equipment-free or simple

No special equipment, or only simple devices

  • Deliverable to end-users

Reaches the people who need it most

We work with institutions

Our tests are supplied in bulk to institutions and government programmes. We work with:

Hospitals, laboratories and clinicians

Genetic tests for inherited conditions, supplied to your institution.

District health officers and government programmes

We have developed tests for national health programmes of the Government of India. Tell us what your programme needs.

NGOs and CSR funders

Talk to us about large, population-level requirements.

Looking for a test for yourself or your family? We supply tests to institutions only. Please speak to your doctor or visit your nearest government health facility.

Awareness and counselling programmes

We also run awareness and counselling programmes, mostly on behalf of the government. Awareness programmes explain inherited conditions and screening to communities. Counselling helps people and families understand results and carrier status.

Validation

LitLife™-SCA is validated by ICMR

Our dried blood spot test for sickle cell anaemia, developed for the National Sickle Cell Anaemia Elimination Mission, is validated by the Indian Council of Medical Research.

Collaboration

Working with CSIR-CCMB, Hyderabad

An MOU with the CSIR-Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology covers developing and commercialising our sickle cell assay.

National programme

India’s 2047 goal for sickle cell disease

The National Sickle Cell Anaemia Elimination Mission, launched in July 2023, aims to eliminate sickle cell disease as a public health problem by 2047.
